A Solid Solution for Dense Woodland: TMC Cancela TFS2-180 Makes its Mark at Sandburn Estate
The Sandburn Estate brings woodland back under control with the robust TFS2-180, transforming dense scrub into manageable, healthy habitat.
Spaldings has recently delivered a TMC Cancela TFS2‑180 Forestry Mulcher (17355) to Sandburn York Ltd, supported by the Farm Equipment Technology Fund grant. Situated across 1,000 acres in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, the Sandburn Estate includes more than 200 acres of woodland of varying age and condition. Large areas had become heavily overgrown with scrub, Rhododendron and Elder — prompting the need for a powerful, reliable mulching solution.
A Heavy‑Duty Machine for a Heavy‑Duty Task
Upon delivery, James Hogg, Director of Sandburn York Ltd, praised both the build quality and the setup provided by the Spaldings team. He summed up his first impressions simply:
“It’s the most solidly built thing that I’ve ever seen.”

The TFS2‑180 is designed specifically for challenging woodland environments, capable of reducing branches, scrub and trees up to 11 inches. Its high‑strength steel construction and long‑lasting carbide‑tipped hammers provide the durability needed for repeated work across large, dense woodland areas.
Improving Woodland Access and Restoring Growth
With the TFS2‑180 now in operation, Sandburn York Ltd can make faster progress opening up dense woodland areas and improving long‑term access.
Mr Hogg was particularly impressed with the quality of work the mulcher delivers, noting:
“The finish that it leaves is spot‑on.”
His plans for the machine include creating rides and glades within the woods to enhance access, visibility and biodiversity, as well as mulching overgrown areas down and leaving them clear for future management. The TFS2‑180 gives the estate a versatile, durable tool for restoring neglected areas and shaping the woodland for years to come.
