Restoring Productive Farmland: TMC Cancela Mulchers in Action.

A customer in Lincolnshire used the new TFX‑225 forestry mulcher alongside an MPK‑225 to efficiently clear overgrown Christmas trees across 180 acres, restoring the land for productive arable farming.

A Christmas Eve purchase turned into a major milestone out in the Wolds near Louth, Lincolnshire, as K. W. Timmins and Sons Ltd Contracting Plant Hire began the huge task of clearing more than 180 acres of oversized Christmas trees. The trees had grown beyond commercial size, and the land is now being prepared for a fresh start as productive arable ground.

Mulching is nothing new for the Timmins team, but this contract demanded extra capacity. They had already sourced a second‑hand MPK-225 (17370) from a Spaldings customer in Scotland and were impressed by its build quality and performance. When they won the contract, the choice was clear to invest in a new forestry surface mulcher to work alongside the MPK-225 multipurpose mulcher tiller— they invested in a brand‑new TFX‑225 (17364) directly from Spaldings to take on the task.

The pairing of the MPK 225 and TFX-225 is a smart, efficient approach to large‑scale vegetation management. The TFX- 225, a surface forestry mulcher, is designed to tackle woody material up to 375mm in diameter and can easily tackle the tough stuff: thick scrub, brash, gorse, saplings, over‑grown Christmas trees, and rough terrain. Once the surface material is mulched to a fine finish the MPK- 225 will finally complete with a pass below ground level to a depth of 100mm as the contract states (the MPK can work to a maximum depth of 250-300mm depending on soil conditions) This pass will chop up the tree stumps and incorporate the surface mulch into the soil before the rear roller  compacts the ground to leave a firm and level finish.

This two‑stage process not only speeds up the job but also delivers a high‑quality finish across large areas — ideal when preparing land for its next chapter.

Reflecting on the project, Will Timmins shared his thoughts: “It’s going really well, I’m really pleased with how it’s operating – it’s the perfect addition for the job.”
