Get to the Point...

Our Forge to Field continues with the exciting new updates to the TWD LD point (Part number R2726 with side plate 13335).

An evaluation of a similar competitor part conducted in 2024 at Limestone Farming of Lincolnshire and Poskitts of East Riding of Yorkshire, identified that the competitor part lasted 23 hectares, whilst the SPL Ultra version was still only 70% worn after 30 hectares and fully protected the base of the leg. The competitor version allowed the base leg to wear heavily, losing over 50% of its depth in key areas requiring replacement.

By examining the wear pattern of a part-worn SPL Ultra, the team identified some areas for further improvement. Here’s what they did:

  • Enhanced Base Leg Protection: The new slim profile replaceable wear plate works in tandem with the newly designed R2726, which features 20mm wide Tungsten leading shin tiles, compared to the competitor’s 10mm tiles that wore out the sides of the legs.

  • Improved Nose Profile: This redesign protects the underside of the leg and helps with ground penetration in harder conditions.

  • Minimal Surface Disturbance: No extra surface disturbance was reported with the modifications using the side plate, whilst the unique profile of the leading shin tiles prevented blackgrass/weed seeds, working up the profile to the topsoil surface.

  • Extended the Lifespan: The R2726 lasted twice as long as the standard point so far, with plenty of life left. The customer expects it to perform the same acreage again.
