Turning Dry Conditions into a Success Story:
One Lincolnshire Farmer’s Experience with Bionature Crop Nutrition

At Spaldings, we’re proud to support farmers with innovative solutions that make a real difference in the field. Recently, Neal Skipworth, Field Sales Representative for Spaldings, visited Mark Popplewell at Happy Days Farms in Worlaby near Market Rasen to see firsthand how Bionature’s crop nutrition programme has impacted his crops.

Farming Across Lincolnshire’s Diverse Soils

Mark manages over 2,000 hectares across Lincolnshire, working with a wide variety of soil types—from heavy clay with high silt content to shallower land near Nettleham. His crop portfolio is just as diverse, including winter barley, winter wheat, spring barley, spring beans, spring oats, and rented land for potatoes and carrots.

Despite the season’s persistent dry weather, Mark’s winter barley fields were thriving. The plants looked green, strong, and healthy—an impressive sight given the challenging conditions.

The Bionature Advantage

Mark attributes much of this success to the early application of Delta, a key product in the Bionature range. Delta helped establish a strong foundation for the crops, promoting a mass of tillers and robust stems. This was followed by X-Stress, another Bionature product designed to help crops cope with environmental stress.

The results were clear:

  • Deep root systems developed early in the season
  • No visible signs of stress despite dry conditions
  • Resilient, healthy plants throughout the growing cycle

Harvest Results That Speak for Themselves

Spaldings returned at harvest time to assess the final outcome—and it was nothing short of fantastic. The Tardis winter barley had not only survived the season’s challenges but thrived, delivering an impressive yield of 12.5 tonne per hectare. Mark was delighted with the results, reinforcing the value of Bionature’s nutrition strategy.
